Some Pianoteq models work satisfactorily in this context, and a few other VI Labs pianos do as well, and Galaxy can suffice, but Ravenscroft rises above all of them to provide the most even timbral balance and full dynamic range for almost any articulation, without ever getting blurred or muddied in the lows or mids. It takes a special piano to cut through that! Most of these songs have several Minimoog Voyager parts, a few Prophet tracks, and VI's from Arturia, FM8, PPG Wave, and a few others. What is really interesting is that Ravenscroft is almost universally the winner when it comes to blending with analog synths and cutting through. I did a whole lot of re-tracking this weekend of tracks from three synth albums that I had put aside for awhile until finally giving up on my partner participating and deciding to just go ahead and finish them all myself.

It therefore seems like I need a minor tweak to the software or hardware but for the life of me I can't figure out where.Īny ideas what might be causing this or how to rectify it. Those play the same notes without a problem. The same thing happens with the other VILabs pianos but it does not happen with the NI pianos I also have like the Grandeur, Maverick, etc. Trying to play for example, Chopin's Nocturne in Eb, the second note in the right hand just 'bops' or cuts short with no sustain unless I really bang it a few times. All the other notes play and sustain normally and well otherwise.
The problem seems to happen on the G and the C an octave above middle C (and one or two others but that is where I notice it mainly). Before I go back to them I thought I would run it by you guys first. I contacted VILabs and they were really quick in responding - they asked me to do a midi file and send it to them because they couldn't say what might be causing it. With the finger pressed down and the sustain pedal held down, it still does not sustain unless I really press the note hard or a couple times. Sounds great except for one or two notes where I get a bopping sound like the note is cut short.
